LinkedIn profile photo size

LinkedIn's pixel range, file limit and formats, its likeness rule, and practical tips for a photo that looks professional in a small circle.

LinkedIn profile photo requirements

LinkedIn Help: between 400 × 400 and 7680 × 4320 pixels, maximum 8 MB, PNG or JPG (GIFs are not supported).

LinkedIn also recommends a photo that will not need much cropping. Our frame tool exports LinkedIn photos at 800 × 800 pixels, inside that range and sharp on high-resolution screens.

It has to look like you

LinkedIn's help page says you can use an illustration, caricature or other artistic rendering, but your profile photo must reflect your likeness. A clear, recent photo of your face is the safest choice, and the one people expect when they meet you.

Background photo

LinkedIn's recommended background (cover) photo size is 1584 × 396 pixels. Our tools do not make cover images.

What makes a good LinkedIn photo

  • Head and top of the shoulders, with your face taking up roughly 60% of the circle.
  • Soft, even light from the front: facing a window works well.
  • A plain, uncluttered background. If yours is busy, add space around the photo and a solid or subtle gradient background in the frame tool.
  • Keep filters light. A small brightness or warmth adjustment is fine; heavy looks can make the photo seem out of date.
  • Use the same photo on your other work profiles so people recognise you.

Frames and badges

LinkedIn has its own frames that you add from the profile photo menu. If you want LinkedIn's own frame, add it on LinkedIn rather than using a text badge from our frame tool, so it shows the way LinkedIn intends.
