X Help Center: recommended profile photo dimensions are 400 × 400 pixels. Personal accounts show it as a circle.

Header photo

The same help page recommends a header (banner) image of 1500 × 500 pixels. Your profile photo overlaps the lower-left part of the header on your profile, so keep important parts of the header away from that corner. Our tools do not make headers.

Tips for X

  • Your photo appears next to every post at a very small size, so a close crop on your face is easier to recognise than a wide shot.
  • A coloured ring helps your photo stand out in a busy timeline. Keep it fairly thin at 400 pixels: 4 to 6% thickness is plenty.
  • Use a PNG if your picture is a logo or illustration, and a JPG for photos if you want a smaller file.
